Brief info
With over 20 years serving in the Outdoor Education and Recreation field, Derek brings a wealth of experience to Get Outside. Derek currently serves as the Director of Southern Utah University’s Outdoor Program. His experience stems from working with many branches of recreation and outdoor education including public land management, private guiding, recreation therapy, community recreation and higher education. He earned a B.A. in Outdoor Recreation in Parks and Tourism and a M.Ed. in Experiential Learning and Development. As an active board member on many other local initiatives and non-profits, he strives to connect local and non-local community members alike to natural resources through education, stewardship and adventurous pursuits.
Derek’s family enjoys climbing, biking, skiing and river rafting in the beautiful southwest.
